Austin
Circuit of The Americas
Built for the American return
COTA opened in 2012 as the first purpose-built Formula 1 venue in the United States. The 5.5 km lap stitches together a steep opening hairpin, high-speed direction changes, a long back straight and a technical closing sector.
Where the lap is decided
- 01Turn 1. The blind, uphill left invites several lines and rewards drivers who can brake late without compromising the exit.
- 02Turns 3–6. The fast esses expose aerodynamic balance and confidence through repeated direction changes.
- 03Turns 11–12. Traction out of the hairpin controls speed down the back straight and sets up the clearest passing chance.
McLaren fit. Mercedes benchmark.
McLaren’s late-season high-speed progress makes the esses a natural match; Mercedes remains the safer all-round favorite because COTA asks for everything.
Red Bull’s two wins entering Austin make it the momentum pick. Ferrari needs to minimize its recent deficit through the linked corners to capitalize on the long straight.
This is a track-demand-versus-current-form read, not a prediction. Upgrades, weather and setup can change the order.
Between sessions
- Downtown: Congress Avenue fan hubs put team activations within walking distance of central hotels.
- At the circuit: The Thursday Grand PrixView program adds F1 Academy running, pit-lane access and an early Fan Zone opening.
- After dark: Sixth Street and Rainey Street keep Austin’s live-music identity close to the race-week crowd.
Viva la Vida Festival and Parade brings Austin’s Día de los Muertos celebration downtown on Saturday, Oct 24. The Spurs play the Rockets at Moody Center on Friday, Oct 23.
Mexico City
Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez
Altitude changes everything
Opened in 1959 and named for racing brothers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez, the circuit hosted its first championship Grand Prix in 1963. Formula 1 returned in 2015 with the final sector rerouted through the Foro Sol stadium.
Where the lap is decided
- 01The altitude. Thin air reduces cooling and downforce, putting the power unit, brakes and thermal management under unusual stress.
- 02Turn 12. Heavy braking into the Foro Sol stadium demands precision as the circuit narrows into its slowest sequence.
- 03Turn 16. Traction out of the stadium section carries all the way down the 1.3 km main straight.
Red Bull’s power. Mercedes’ risk.
Red Bull’s improving chassis and strong Red Bull Ford combustion engine make it the intriguing fit for Mexico’s thin air and long straights.
Mercedes leads the standings, but its 2026 power-unit reliability record makes the altitude and cooling load a genuine watchpoint. Ferrari can enter the picture if it finds clean deployment and traction.
Analysis, not certainty: Mexico’s altitude is a leveller, and cooling choices can outweigh normal form.
Race week, city-wide
- Paseo de la Reforma: Sergio Pérez is scheduled for a Cadillac show run on Wednesday, Oct 28.
- Foro Sol: The stadium section and ticketed Fan Zone are the weekend’s loudest center of gravity.
- Base yourself: Roma–Condesa for food and nightlife; Polanco for museums and hotels. Metro Line 9 serves the circuit.
The race lands in the heart of the celebration. The Gran Desfile is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 31, with the monumental Zócalo ofrenda running Oct 29–Nov 2.
São Paulo
Interlagos · Autódromo José Carlos Pace
Short lap, outsized drama
Interlagos opened in 1940 and hosted its first championship Brazilian Grand Prix in 1973. Formula 1 returned to a shorter layout in 1990; elevation, a counterclockwise flow and rapidly changing weather have made it a frequent stage for title drama.
Where the lap is decided
- 01Senna S. Hard braking into the cambered left-right complex creates the primary overtaking contest.
- 02Junção. The exit from the final technical corner sets the speed for the long uphill run.
- 03Subida dos Boxes. Power delivery, traction and rear-tyre condition decide who arrives fastest at the line.
McLaren flow. Mercedes control.
McLaren’s high-speed confidence and tyre management fit the flowing middle sector; Mercedes’ broad operating base is the safer answer if conditions keep moving.
Red Bull’s late-season surge — and Verstappen’s strength in variable races — makes it a serious threat. Ferrari needs predictable tyre warm-up if the surface stays cool or green.
Analysis, not certainty: rain and Safety Car timing can overwhelm the normal competitive order here.
São Paulo at speed
- At the circuit: Heineken Village and the official Fan Zones anchor the trackside festival.
- Motorsport trail: Pair Interlagos with the Ayrton Senna mural and the bronze monument at Ibirapuera Park.
- Base yourself: Avenida Paulista for metro access; Pinheiros or Vila Madalena for bars, galleries and music.
Sepultura’s final career concert is scheduled at Suhai Music Hall on Saturday, Nov 7. Hoobastank also plays Terra SP that night.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas Strip Circuit
A city turned racetrack
Formula 1 raced in Las Vegas in 1981–82 on a Caesars Palace parking-lot circuit. The sport returned in 2023 on a different night layout built around a 1.9 km blast down the Strip, passing the Bellagio and Sphere.
Where the lap is decided
- 01The Strip. The 1.9 km flat-out run forces a low-drag setup and magnifies energy deployment.
- 02Turns 6–7. A long left feeds one of the toughest braking zones, where front locking is a constant risk.
- 03Turn 12. Braking accuracy and exit quality matter because the corner sits between long acceleration zones.
Mercedes baseline. Cold-track wildcard.
Mercedes’ all-round consistency makes it the measured favorite, but Vegas is dominated by tyre temperature more than normal form.
Red Bull and Ferrari should benefit where straight-line deployment and braking stability count. McLaren’s post-summer progress must translate to a cold, low-grip street surface.
Analysis, not certainty: temperature swings and a green track can reverse the order from session to session.
Beyond the grandstands
- At the Sphere: The T-Mobile Zone combines track views, concerts and driver appearances.
- Race a sim: F1 Arcade at the Forum Shops has 87 motion simulators.
- Different Vegas: The Neon Museum, Fremont Street and Arts District offer a counterpoint to the Strip.
Neon City Festival runs Nov 20–22 across downtown stages with a free all-ages lineup. The Eagles’ Sphere residency also overlaps race weekend.
Qatar
Lusail International Circuit
Motorcycle roots, F1 loads
Lusail opened in 2004 as a motorcycle circuit. Its broad, flowing geometry still reflects that origin. Formula 1 debuted here in 2021, then returned under a long-term agreement in 2023.
Where the lap is decided
- 01Turns 12–14. The triple-apex right-hander creates sustained lateral load and rewards a stable high-speed platform.
- 02Turns 5–6 and 10–11. Flow and precision matter more than heroic braking through these linked corners.
- 03Main straight. With one clear passing zone, teams must balance high cornering downforce against enough low drag to attack.
McLaren and Red Bull territory.
McLaren’s fast-corner confidence and Red Bull’s improving aero platform best match Lusail’s sustained high-speed demands.
Mercedes remains close through execution and balance, though recent high-speed entry sensitivity is the question. Ferrari needs its cornering platform to hold over a full stint.
Analysis, not certainty: wind direction and tyre limits can reshape both setup and strategy.
Doha and Lusail
- At the circuit: Family Friday programming includes the Fan Forum, simulators, cultural activities and kids’ events.
- Explore: Souq Waqif, the Corniche, Katara and Msheireb are dependable stops between sessions.
- Base yourself: West Bay and The Pearl keep the city’s main attractions within practical reach.
The 48-team FIFA U-17 World Cup runs Nov 19–Dec 13, overlapping race weekend, with matches centered on Aspire Zone.
Abu Dhabi
Yas Marina Circuit
Twilight season finale
Yas Marina opened in 2009 around a working marina and beneath its illuminated trackside hotel. The circuit became Formula 1’s twilight finale and was shortened from 21 corners to 16 for 2021 to improve race flow.
Where the lap is decided
- 01Turn 5. Clean traction from the slow hairpin determines speed for the 1.2 km straight.
- 02Turns 2–4. Fast direction changes expose front grip, aero balance and confidence over the kerbs.
- 03Final sector. Banked Turn 9 feeds a sequence of traction corners where differential control and patience matter.
Mercedes, with three teams close.
Mercedes’ balanced package, traction and deployment make it the most complete fit for Yas Marina’s mixed demands.
Red Bull and Ferrari remain threats on the long straights; McLaren’s result will depend on translating high-speed strength into the slow final sector. The seven-point McLaren–Red Bull gap after Singapore keeps that fight especially sharp.
Analysis, not certainty: twilight temperature changes make practice data less representative than it first appears.
Finale weekend
- At the circuit: The F1 Fanzone and Oasis host music, games and driver appearances.
- Motorsport day: Pair Yas Kartzone with Ferrari World and its Formula Rossa launch coaster.
- See the city: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the essential landmark; Yas Island is the easiest race-week base.
Eid al Etihad brings displays and celebrations on Dec 2–3, immediately before the race. Afrobiano Festival runs Dec 4–6 at Yas Beach.

2027 rules and factory watch
The Formula 1 Commission has agreed the changes below. They are not final regulations yet: every regulatory item remains subject to formal FIA World Motor Sport Council approval.
Shorter Grand Prix distance
The standard race distance drops from 305 km to 290 km for 2027, typically cutting two or three laps. Formula 1 links the change to the 2027 power-unit fuel-flow refinements.
Power-unit balance shifts
ICE output rises toward 420 kW. The MGU-K is capped at 300 kW in standard use and 350 kW in Overtake Mode, moving the ICE/MGU-K split from near-even to 58/42 in 2027; 60/40 is targeted for 2028.
Disrupted-race clock
A hard stop time will govern the end of racing activity. The current three-hour maximum event window is removed, while the two-hour limit on actual racing remains.
Interrupted practice
Officials gain more flexibility to extend a free practice session when it is interrupted.
Gearbox development
Gearbox homologation is removed for 2027 to preserve development freedom for suppliers.
Minor technical revisions
Minor changes to the 2027 Technical Regulations have been agreed in principle, but the detailed wording has not yet been published.
Ten Sprint weekends
The Sprint roster expands from six weekends to 10 in 2027. Monaco joins the format for the first time.

Start with your priority. The cards below use value-oriented grandstands and general-admission areas as the planning baseline.
Spa-Francorchamps
The forest setting, elevation and Eau Rouge/Raidillon make this the visceral high-speed choice.
Combes 1–4 for reserved seating near the end of the Kemmel Straight. Bronze general admission is the lowest-cost route if you are comfortable walking and arriving early.
Suzuka
A figure-eight lap, fast S-curves and one of the sport’s most committed crowds.
Grandstand D, especially Zone 5, for the opening S-curves and a wide first-sector view. Grandstand C is a sensible mid-range step up near Turns 1–2.
Monza
The “Temple of Speed” pairs slipstream racing with the emotional force of the Tifosi.
Laterale Parabolica 21C–E offers braking and exit action below the premium first-chicane tiers. If the budget stretches, 6B is the value side of the Prima Variante grandstands.
COTA · Austin
A modern fan weekend with strong sightlines, elevation and several genuine passing zones.
Turn 12 lower sections put the back-straight braking zone in front of you. General admission around Turn 1 or Turn 11 is the cheaper roaming option when released.
Marina Bay
Formula 1’s original night race turns the downtown street circuit into a full city festival.
Stamford Grandstand for a reserved view of the Turn 7 braking zone and Zone 4 entertainment. Zone 4 Walkabout is the lower-cost option if a guaranteed seat is not essential.
“Affordable” is relative to each event’s standard public inventory. 2027 prices and availability can change; compare official releases before booking. Premium hospitality and paddock access are intentionally excluded.
